Thank you for sharing what a gift Jaime is to the world, and to me-very specifically. As you already know, Jaime is one of the most incredibly selfless people on this planet. I am the neighbor, fellow book club attendee, friend (now family) of this amazing human being, and I will never forget the day she called to tell me she was being tested to donate to her kidney to my husband. I cried, and I also had a peace. Knowing her blood type was a match (which is just the beginning of all testing) gave our family such great hope. If I can just share with you some of the things Jamie said along the way, you will know she is not like “the rest of us.” “It just what people do!” “I’m just doing my part.” “I’m so excited about this.” “You all deserve this and I hope it comes to fruition quickly.” These are just a few of the things. In the hospital, she wrote Blake a card thanking HIM for allowing HER to do this. She had showered us with nothing but love and kindness. She mentioned that my husband is a minister, and Jamie is just a true example of a cheerful giver, a loving heart, treating your neighbor as you would want to be treated. One thing she said about 8 weeks after when I was attending her yoga class was, “it’s like nothing ever happened!” She was referring to her being recovered from surgery, but it’s also just who she is. It’s a part of life, it’s what I was meant to do, and I did it-because I’m a human and we look out for each other. We are forever grateful. She gave my husband his life back-he very nearly died, and he had a miserable year of dialysis and living with terrible kidneys, and now we have “Lefty” and a brighter future ahead. Thank you for sharing Jaime’s story. I hope to anyone reading that has ever thought about donating would take the step! It is life-giving!!!
